Well, it’s that time of year again. No, not the Holiday Season. It’s Hurricane Season. It is of particular concern to businesses here in the Jacksonville area, but these storms can cause tragic circumstances across the Atlantic Seaboard and Gulf Coast states. This time of year is a good reminder to make sure your business is prepared.
The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) is predicting this year will be a near normal hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean. This means the government agency is forecasting a 70% chance of 10 to 16 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher). Of these, 4 to 8 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 1 to 4 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher).

Beginning today, The World Meeting of Families Conference will take place in Philadelphia. The event will be a capped off by a visit by Pope Francis on Saturday the 26th, who will be speaking at several locations around the city. He will also be participating in a motorcade and celebrating a public Papal Mass on Sunday.
Here in Pennsylvania, a massive logistical effort has been underway for months to ensure the safety and success of the event. To provide for the utmost security for Pope Francis and the conference participants, many bridges and interstate highways, along with local streets in and around Center City Philadelphia will be closed for the duration of the event. It will be difficult for people to move around and get to work and shop. Naturally, this is causing business hardship on many levels. Continue reading
